Travel to Dallas

Looking for a fun, inexpensive destination for a long weekend or a week long vacation? Check out Dallas, Texas. It's centrally located half way between the east and west coasts. And something many tourists may not know is that you get two cities for the price of one.

Ft. Worth is just a hop, skip and a jump west of Dallas. The Ft. Worth Rodeo occurs annually in January drawing tourists from all over the world. But they also offer many exciting events throughout the year, such as cattle drives, live concerts and gun fight shows. Add to that the amazing steak houses and shopping (think Nieman Marcus) choices and it's a very appealing destination all by itself.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Dallas is the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, the former Texas Schoolbook Depository. This museum houses many historical films, artifacts, photographs and other memorabilia surrounding the John F. Kennedy assassination back in 1963.

Dallas is a friendly southern city with plenty of old south hospitality. The summers are long and hot and the winters are short and frigid. The population is around 2 and a half million people. Unlike many larger cities, hotels, food and entertainment remain moderately priced.

A week stay in a clean, comfortable extended stay hotel can easily run under $200. Hotels like this feature free wi-fi, swimming pools and daily maid service. It's pretty difficult to find a deal like this in San Diego or Miami.

In between Dallas and Ft. Worth, a vicinity the locals refer to as the Mid-Cities area, you'll find Six Flags Over Texas, as well as The Ballpark in Arlington, where the famous Texas Rangers play baseball. You might also want to check out the new Cowboys Stadium, located in the Mid-Cities area as well. You may even spot a Cowboy's Cheerleader out there on the prairie somewhere.

The legendary State Fair of Texas takes place each October with acres of exhibits, arcade rides, and delicious food experiences like corn dogs, funnel cakes, and homemade taffy. Big Tex, the fair's infamous mascot,'ll greet you with a big Texas Howdy! Big Tex is a 52-foot tall cowboy, sporting a 75-gallon hat and size 70 boots.

The Dallas Auto Show takes place in April and always features an exciting array of concept cars, along with the latest in green technology. Gasp, as you drool over the shiny, new Maseratis and Ferraris.
